About laguna beach silks

Welcome and thanks for checking out my website. I'm Cindy Stalnaker, an East Coast native now residing in Southern California (since 1978!). Every summer and winter, I exhibit at the Sawdust Art Festival, in Laguna Beach. My latest art obsession is working with all the fabulous features of polymer clay — exploring all the possibilities is keeping me busy these days

As for the silk part of my explorations, the process of water-marbling involves floating paint drops on a gel-thickened water bath. I use a variety of rakes and combs to drag through the paint drops, creating traditional Florentine patterns as well as abstract expressions of color and movement. No two pieces are alike. The prepared silk scarf is then printed right off of the water surface. After 24 hours of drying, the design is heat-set to cure. All scarves are hand-washable and can be ironed. Check out my water-marbling video! My silk artwork was featured in a past issue of Laguna Beach Magazine.
